SBS Brake Pads

Scandinavian Brake Systems was founded in Denmark in 1964. After producing high performance and racing motorcycle brake pads for years, the company entered the automotive industry.

In 1995 SBS, the largest supplier of aftermarket brake pads for motorcycles in the world, set out to develop a line of high performance and racing brake pads for automobiles. The project was based on a high temperature stable ceramic matrix composite technology, a compound and concept capable to compete and exceed current standards.

To prove their pad compound was superior, SBS took a datalogging equipped Indy car to Elkhart Lake race track where they completed a number of nasty stops around the track, the most brutal was from 196MPH to 65MPH in just 2.2 seconds. Based on the datalogs generated at Elkhart Lake, SBS programmed their brake dyno to perfectly simulate the track conditions.

In this controlled setting, SBS competed against top brake pad compounds from companies such as: Performance Friction, Hawk, EBC, Pagid, Ferrodo, and others. The dyno testing was completed 30 times for each pad simulating laps and testing fade. Under the harsh conditions some competing pads actually fell apart on the dyno! The SBS pads experienced no fade and in fact improved in friction coefficient as the number of laps increased. The results usually concluded the SBS Touring compound was comparable or better than most competitors race compounds.

This compound is for street cars, SUVs, and light trucks where extra brake performance and extended pad life is required. To insure low-noise operation when used on the road, Pro Touring and Heavy Duty ceramic brake pads are equipped with noise reduction features similar to OE pads. The friction level steadily rises during lower speed stops.

The Pro Track is a race compound that also can be used on the street with a slightly reduced comfort level. The Pro Track Endurance carbon ceramic compound is capable of with brake temperatures up to 1292F (700C). The compound coefficient of friction rises during high-speed stops. This compound is ideal for low weight race cars.

Pro Race dual carbon is the 'state-of-the-art' compound, recommended for race use. It has very consistent performance from lap to lap, giving the confidence necessary while racing. Pro Race dual carbon brake pads are recommended for top level racing with brake temperatures up to 1472F (800C).

SBS Pad Features

  • NRS - Nucap Retention System is used to ensure superior mechanical contact between the back plate and the friction material.
  • DEST - Dynamic Energy Surface Treatment helps ensure consistent friction performance by degassing the friction material.
  • UCT - Unified Composite Technology ensures a uniform mixing of the friction material
