WMS Racing in Argentina!

One of our very good Customers, Ivan Ortuzar of Chile, recently invited Shannon Wall of WMS to drive his 67 Mustang in the '500 Kms de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires' a vintage endurance race held at the old F1 track in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The race was held on December 15, 2007 Certainly an opportunity that could not be passed up! Shown above is Ivan (red suit) and Shannon (blue suit) with the white 67 Mustang. The red 67 Mustang would be the eventual winner of the race driven by Elvio Olave and Christian Haleby, also from Chile.

Ivan's Mustang was very well prepared with a full fiberglass body panels, serious suspension mods, a Ford Racing 347 and Richmond 5 speed transmission. Because it is a vintage race a spec street tire is used but grip was good for a hard compound. The handling was amazing, very balanced and easy to drive. Lots of power was on tap and used on the long straights, most of the course was run in 4th and 5th gear.

Ivan getting ready to go out for the first practice on Thursday. The Mustang was very low with great looking fiberglass fender flares front and rear. Of course a full roll cage stiffened the chassis considerably. Tires were 265/50/15s front and 295/50/15s rear mounted on correct looking Torq Thrust wheels.

About 90 cars started the race from vintage Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes to BMWs, VWs, Mercedes and Porsches. There were also a huge number of cars we rarely see in North America - Puegeot, Alfa Romeo, Citroen and Fiat.

Here is the Mustang in the pits after battle with two of the mechanics from Argomedo. Unfortunately the Mustang did not finish the race as there were engine problems after about 1 1/2 hours. Everyone was still smiling though!

Our thanks again to all the drivers of Chile for being such fantastic hosts. There were about 30 Chilean drivers who travelled to Argentina for the race. We really were treated like kings for our stay. We are very fortunate to meet such wonderful people and see a wonderful country!
